Audience feedback

For another source of audience feedback, we chose 6 people to watch our film, then we filmed them saying what they thought about it. We asked them many questions about what they thought about our film, we asked them varied questions and they all answered differently.
Since my last blog, we have finished all of the filming and editing for our final product. here are the the links to watch our film.

Planning our 2 minute thriller

We have changed our main idea from the first time.
We have planned what shots we're going to use, the scenery.
We still need to choose where we are going to shoot, and who we are going to use as our actors.
Now we need to create a storyboard each, explaining our angles and shots and why we chose them.

Evaluation. 1st draft

Media evaluation
1. In our short film, I have not challenged the codes and conventions for example, we have a family situation, so we dressed the father and the child characters in stereotypical fashion, the father is sitting in an office, in a smart shirt and tie, and the daughter is wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and gossiping on her phone when she enters the room. We made the father, act serious in a typical parental way, with him telling the daughter what to do.

2. The media product represents parents in a stereotypical way, telling the child what to do, and acting serious when the daughter doesn’t know what’s happening. And it also shows teenagers at being typical gossipers as she is on her phone for most of the duration of the film saying things like “oh my god” and “really” presenting teenage girls as gossipers.

3. The type of institution that would produce my film would be an indie film company, as the main plot of our film is the father is walking out on the daughter, and indie films are generally known for struggles of life, and if our film was longer it would turn into the story about the daughter and how she copes with it. Our film would be a small scale film.

4. The audience that our media product is aimed towards teenagers and young adults. This is because we think that teenagers could maybe connect with the characters more than adults could. We aimed this at teenagers because, they are more likely to enjoy it and believe it more than an adult who, would maybe not believe the story line or would be more hypocritical about it, whereas a teenager would be more open to believe the story line.

5. I attracted the audience to watch my media product by using interesting shots, such as over the shoulder shots and shot reverse shot, so it made the audience feel like they were really involved with the characters and the story line. Also by using shots such as shot reverse shot the shots changed quite quickly, which made you feel more worried about the daughter character, and maybe the jumpiness of the shots would be a possible link to what’s going on in her head. We also used a panning shot when the girl walks into the room, we follow her slowly as she enters the room. When she pushes down on the handle, we have a close up of the door handle, to give a dramatic effect and to indicate that something is about to happen.

6. I have learnt a lot about the technology that I used to whilst filming my media product. I have learnt that when you film, you must film a shoot a sequence more than once, so that you have a variety of clips to choose from. I have also learnt that film editing isn’t as easy as it looks, they always make film editing look easy, but you have to save after you edit a clip, even if it’s just deleting, as my group knows, we lost all our work as we didn’t save as it as we went along. Whilst editing you can also move around the way in which a sequence runs by dragging it along, and you can add in different effects, such as sound effects or visual effects like blackouts etc. Another thing I have learnt about using technology that we used, is that, when we first started filming, we chose the biggest camera because we thought it would be better, but when you come to doing for example, over the should shots, it is sometimes difficult and awkward to get the camera in the angle/ position that you want.

Film preparation- 3 minute thriller

Had our first group meeting, planning and discussing the plot and locations for our film.
Brain-stormed ideas.
Discussed when and how we were going to film- for example, after school, during the evening.
Listened to others ideas- everyone contributed to the plot.
Started to talk about actors used to shoot the film.
